Bizkaia Aretoa, designed by Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza with an original “L” shape, is located in one of the most flagship areas of Bilbao, opening towards the estuary and the Guggenheim museum, at the center of Abandoibarra avenue, between the Padre Arrupe footbridge and the Deusto bridge. Its over 9.000 square meters built, distributed in six floors, include rooms with different capacity. The building also has a terrace of nearly 400 square meters in its first floor, and impressive views. In the basement of the building there is a parking and several storing rooms.
Presently the building hosts all kinds of social, cultural, academic and scientific events, mainly organized by the Universidad del País Vasco/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea (UPV/EHU), though it often serves for other activities by external entities. This has allowed the Bizkaia Aretoa to become one of the seats of reference for the organization of events in Bilbao.
